Credit cards
What counts as a lifetime-free credit card?
A lifetime-free credit card has a nil annual fee in the terms. A fee that vanishes after you spend ₹1 lakh is a waiver for that year, not a lifetime-free card.
These pages answer the questions people actually ask, and they stop where we have not checked a number.
A devaluation changes the earn rate, the cap, the transfer list, or the exclusions. Redo the rupee sum on your own spend. Cards people argued about through 2026 include Axis Atlas, Regalia Gold, Amex MRCC, Tata Neu Infinity, Swiggy HDFC, Airtel Axis, and Millennia.
A fuel card is worth opening when monthly pump spend is high enough that the surcharge waiver beats a plain cashback card. The waiver percentage and the monthly cap are in the card terms, and they change.
A RuPay credit card on UPI spends from your credit limit when the merchant accepts it. The reward is capped, some shops refuse the card, and rent or wallet loads are often excluded.
Pay a credit card bill from the issuer app when the due date is close. Use CRED, Amazon Pay or MobiKwik only when the reward is real and the payment will post in time.
Choose a health-insurance amount from the hospital bill your family could not fund, then decide how much should sit in a base policy and how much can sit above a deductible.
A floater shares one sum insured across the family. Individual policies ring-fence cover per person. Use age, medical history and the chance of two claims to choose the structure.
Employer health cover is useful while you have it, but the employer controls the plan and it can end with the job. Build personal continuity before you need it.
These clauses decide how much of an admissible hospital bill stays with you. Read them before comparing premiums or sum insured.
A parent over 50 with an existing illness needs a separate policy, a written waiting period, and the employer cover kept until the personal policy is in force. The quote on the proposal is the price, not a forum average.
A super top-up pays after a deductible you can build up across the year. A top-up often resets that deductible per hospitalisation. Neither one replaces the base policy.
Cashless pre-authorisation is approval of an estimate, not the final settlement. The discharge bill can still leave consumables, a room-rent cut, and a co-pay for you to pay.
Declare existing illnesses, medicines, and past admissions before you pay the premium. A claim rejected later for non-disclosure is a different problem from a waiting period you could have read on day one.
Porting can carry the waiting period you have already served to a new insurer. It does not copy room-rent rules or a promise that the new insurer will accept you. Apply before the current policy lapses.
You need term cover when your death would leave another person with an income gap, unpaid debt or replacement-care cost. You may not need it when nobody depends on you.
Size term cover from the money your family would need, subtract assets meant for them, and stop the term when the financial dependency should end.
Medical tests are underwriting, not a trap. Answer the proposal yourself, disclose health and habits fully, and keep the submitted form with the policy.
Buy a rider only when it fills a specific gap that your term, health, accident or disability cover does not already handle.
Pure term is the cover that pays if you die during the term. Return-of-premium costs more because it pays your premiums back if you survive. That refund is your own money, not an investment return.
A claim-settlement ratio is the share of claims an insurer closed in a period. It does not show how much of your bill was paid, how long it took, or whether your product behaves like the average.
Before you buy a mutual fund someone named in a post, check the job it does, whether you hold the direct plan, and whether it beat its own benchmark in most 3-year and 5-year periods.
Direct and regular plans hold the same portfolio. The regular plan costs more every year because it pays a distributor. The gap compounds, and switching can trigger exit load and tax.
A SIP is how you invest salary that arrives every month. A lump sum is money you already have. Waiting for a dip is a second bet. Equity is the wrong tool if you need the cash inside three years.
Stopping a SIP only stops future debits. The units stay. Redeeming sells those units and can trigger exit load and tax, and every instalment has its own purchase date.
TPIN is a PIN you enter to release shares for a sale through CDSL. DDPI is a limited permission for the broker to debit shares for settlement without that PIN each time. It is narrower than the old power of attorney.
Move the shares and stop the mandates before you close a demat account. TPIN and DDPI are two ways a sale is authorised. BSDA is a cheaper demat only while you stay inside SEBI’s holding limit.
A zero-balance savings account is cheap only while the debit card, SMS alerts and a stopped salary credit stay free. Read the charge sheet for the month the salary does not arrive.
FD interest is taxed at your income slab. A higher rate card at the branch is not your in-hand return. Use your own rate, tenure, and slab in the illustration, and check the current TDS threshold before you file a form.
Keep one UPI app you can reopen when a payment fails. Add a cashback app only while its reward still pays on the transfers you actually make.
